Search syntax
AvoNet Search provides a flexible search syntax that allows you to control which sources, categories, and languages are used—without tracking or profiling.
These options are entirely optional. You can use AvoNet Search like any normal search engine, or apply modifiers when you want more control. Available engines, categories, and languages can be reviewed in the preferences.
! Select engine and category
Use the ! prefix to select specific search engines or categories.
Examples:
-
Search Wikipedia for paris:
-
Search the map category for paris:
-
Perform an image search:
Abbreviations are supported. Multiple engines and categories can be combined. For example:
This searches map results using DuckDuckGo and Wikipedia simultaneously.
: Select language
Use the : prefix to filter results by language.
Example:
-
Search Wikipedia using French results:
!!<bang> External search shortcuts
AvoNet Search supports external bang shortcuts compatible with DuckDuckGo.
Using the !! prefix sends your query directly to the external service.
Example:
-
Jump directly to an external Wikipedia search:
Important:
When using external bangs, the search is performed outside of AvoNet Search.
Privacy protections provided by AvoNet do not apply in this case.
!! automatic redirect
Including !! within a search query (separated by spaces) redirects you to the
first result automatically. This behavior is similar to a “feeling lucky” search.
Example:
-
Redirect to the first result:
Note:
Redirected results are not vetted by AvoNet Search. Privacy protections do not
extend beyond the redirect destination. Use this feature with caution.
Special queries
AvoNet Search supports several built-in utility queries, which can be enabled in the preferences.

-
Generate a random UUID:
-
